With Halloween just 10 days away, spooky decorations all over town, and Halloween candy and costumes on display at the front of every store, I’ve grown a little nostalgic.
All of the Halloween preparations have me thinking back to when I was a kid. I remember some of my favorite costumes - a witch, a cheerleader, a hippie (I later incorporated these jeans into my actual wardrobe as bell bottoms, or “flares,” made their comeback that year). I remember all the dads in the neighborhood gathering up the kids to go trick or treating while the moms stayed home to pass out candy and cook the traditional Halloween dinner of frozen pizza. And I remember sorting my candy at the end of the night - it was always quite a haul - and then trading with my brothers so we all got our favorites. Let’s not forget dad’s trick or treat charge, too. He claimed however many Heath bars we got as his fee.
Heath is a seriously underrated candy bar that truly doesn’t get the credit it deserves. I think my lack of Heath as a child has contributed to my love of Heath in adulthood - and yes, I will be claiming my trick or treat fee of Heath bars from my little one this year.
So what about you? What are some of your favorite things about Halloween? What was your favorite Halloween costume ever? Send me a picture at s.mccord@msprecast.com and I’ll add them to this post and share them on social media.
