Judson University Weber Academic Center
Elgin, IL
The 88,000 square foot Harm A. Weber Academic Center is home to Judson’s Art and Design Department, Architecture and Interior Design Department, and the Benjamin P. Browne Library, the Draewell Gallery, and Jerry’s Café. It is a LEED Gold certified building and one of the most energy-efficient buildings of its kind in the United States.
Precast wall panels and hollowcore were used on the project, which features exposed precast on the interior. The precast concrete’s thermal mass radiates warmth or coolness depending on the season and the exterior walls are built out about four feet from the precast concrete walls to contain the chases for vertical air flow.
